With today’s increasingly complex issues around the world, it’s important for students to be assured that peace is possible as long as we act and think like global citizens.

Orwell Art is designed to promote greater awareness and understanding by connecting students with the history behind the headlines and with classrooms on the other side of the globe. This is important in giving them confidence and the conviction that they can make a difference in the world. As Orwell said, “Our job is to make life worth living on this earth, which is the only earth we have.”

Give your students the democracy education program with global reach. Teach them that every voice matters.

Give your students the democracy education program with global reach. Teach them that every voice matters.

  • CRITICAL THINKING: Your students will learn how Orwell analyzed global events correctly even though his insights at the time were not popular.
  • ACTIVE GLOBAL CITZENSHIP: Through Orwell’s example of caring about global events, your students will be reminded that they matter, and that every voice matters, and that they shouldn’t be afraid to use their voice to speak out for those who may not have one, even if they feel that’s not the popular thing to do.
  • YOUTH EMPOWERMENT & DEMOCRATIC ENGAGEMENT: Your students will study how Orwell overcame censorship and rejection to communicate his urgent human rights message through the power of art.
  • 21st CENTURY LEARNING STRATEGIES: Students create original works of art about urgent human rights crises, working alone or in teams to explore their creativity. Their artwork is then shown to the world through social media, using the hashtag #OrwellArt and by engaging online with classrooms around the world. Students build an understanding of issues by connecting with people in the places that they are learning about.
